.KEY MESSAGES...

- Somewhat drier air will move into the area through the weekend,
  decreasing the threat of showers and thunderstorms. However,
  moisture is expected to increase again by Tuesday.

- Hot temperatures as high as the lower 100s can be expected for
  the valleys of northwest Utah as well as the Uinta Basin through
  Monday, with highs in the upper 100s for portions of southern
  Utah, including Zion National Park. Overnight lows will remain
  in the 70s to around 80, limiting the potential for overnight
  relief from the heat.

.DISCUSSION...Broad high pressure centered east of the Four
Corners area along with a weak shortwave trough lifting across
the PacNW has brought a drier southwesterly flow to Utah. This has
reduced PWATs to around 0.9 inches in southern and central Utah,
although a pocket of 1-1.2 inches exists across northwest Utah.
Convection across southern Utah remained fairly isolated across
southern Utah today as a result. Across northwest Utah, however,
the moisture pocket and associated instability combined with
increased shear owing to the proximity of the upper jet has
allowed more scattered convection along with stronger storms
today. These storms will continue to cross north-central Utah
through late this evening before dissipating. An outflow boundary
associated with these storms will continue to bring enhanced
winds to portions of northern Utah until shortly after midnight.

The drier southwesterly flow will continue through Sunday and into
early Monday. PWATs below 1 inch will spread into northern Utah
Sunday. While this will bring a decreased threat of convection to
northern Utah, a vort max rotating around the high is progged to
lift across southeast Utah. This will aid in bringing increased
convection to portions of southern and central Utah once again.

Despite the drying, enough moisture will be around to keep low
temperatures elevated. In the valleys, this means that many valley
locations will stay in the 70s to around 80 overnight with high
temperatures rising above 100F, with the lack of relief
contributing to an increased risk for heat related illness. As a
result, heat highlights remain in place through Monday.

As the ridge amplifies, expect the flow aloft to turn more
southerly, drawing moisture into the area once again late Monday
or Tuesday. As such, a period of more active convection is
expected to return, but this should be relatively brief. The high
pressure will start to drift westward mid/late week, ending up
near southwest UT/northwest AZ for the weekend. This will bring a
drier airmass into the area, with the drying trend beginning as
early as Thursday, and could potentially continue through at least
the early part of next week.

.AVIATION...
KSLC...Outflows from thunderstorms moving through northern Utah
will continue to bring enhanced northwesterly winds late this
evening and delay the southerly wind shift until 06-07z. Generally
light diurnal winds can be expected for Sunday. Expect VFR
conditions throughout the TAF period.

REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will continue to diminish after midnight tonight.
Strong and gusty outflow winds will remain possible near these
showers, with outflows across northern Utah impacting terminals
across the northwestern third of Utah with gusty and erratic
winds through 06-08z. VFR conditions will likely prevail, though
a heavier shower could produce a temporary VIS reduction across
far northern Utah through late tonight. For Sunday, scattered
showers and thunderstorms will develop across southern and central
Utah while northern Utah and southwest Wyoming will trend drier.

.FIRE WEATHER, Issued 120 PM MDT Sat Jul 25 2026...
Drier air will continue to move into Utah through
Monday, causing a gradual decrease in coverage of showers and
thunderstorms. On Sunday, these storms will likely be limited to
southern and eastern Utah as a weak wave passes through. In
general, storms this weekend will be capable of producing gusty
and erratic outflow winds up to 45 mph, the exception being today
across northwest Utah where gusts could exceed 60 mph through the
early evening.

With this drier air moving in, portions of western and southern
Utah are expected to see minimum relative humidity values near
critical values both Sunday and Monday afternoons. While forecast
confidence is still fairly low across northern and western Utah,
moisture is likely to increase again across the rest of the state
beginning Tuesday, with moisture remaining in place for much of
the remainder of the upcoming week.
